چکیده

(Correction made here after initial online publication.) Today's manufacturing environment has changed since the time when control chart methods were originally introduced. Sequentially observed data are much more common. Serial correlation can seriously affect the performance of the traditional control charts. In this article we derive explicit easy-to-use expressions of the variance of an EWMA statistic when the process observations are autoregressive of order 1 or 2. These variances can be used to modify the control limits of the corresponding EWMA control charts. The resulting control charts have the advantage that the data are plotted on the original scale making the charts easier to interpret for practitioners than charts based on residuals.

Asymptotic behavior of the variance of the EWMA statistic for autoregressive processes

Serial correlation can seriously affect the performance of traditional control charts. Many authors have studied the effect of autocorrelation on EWMA control charts and have shown how to modify the control limits to account for autocorrelation. In this paper we compare three different estimation methods for the variance of the EWMA statistic that is adapted to autocorrelated data. This compari...

Robustness of the EWMA Control Chart to Non-normality for Autocorrelated Processes

Most commonly used control charts for monitoring quality characteristics of the processes were developed under the assumption that the observations are randomly sampled from a normal population. It is well known that these control charts have more false alarms than usual when processes are positively autocorrelated. One remedy is to adjust the control limits such that the modified control chart...

Max-cusum Chart for Autocorrelated Processes

A Cumulative Sum (CUSUM) control chart capable of detecting changes in both the mean and the standard deviation for autocorrelated data, referred to as the Max-CUSUM chart for Autocorrelated Process chart (MCAP chart), is proposed. This chart is based on fitting a time series model to the data, and then calculating the residuals. The observations are represented as a first-order autoregressive ...

Optimal Design for SARMA(P,Q)L Process of EWMA Control Chart

The main goal of this paper is to study Statistical Process Control (SPC) with Exponentially Weighted Moving Average (EWMA) control chart when observations are seriallycorrelated. The characteristic of control chart is Average Run Length (ARL) which is the average number of samples taken before an action signal is given. Ideally, an acceptable ARL of in-control process should be enough large, s...

Control chart based on residues: Is a good methodology to detect outliers?

The purpose of this article is to evaluate the application of forecasting models along with the use of residual control charts to assess production processes whose samples have autocorrelation characteristics. The main objective is to determine the efficiency of control charts for individual observations (CCIO) and exponentially weighted moving average (EWMA) charts when they are applied to res...
